Microsoft Surface – Finally

30 May

Someone invents something that at least portents of the future.

Microsoft Surface

Nice apps it’s got:
Microsoft Surface
Microsoft Surface
Microsoft Surface

Form factor’s a bit shit though:
Micrsoft Surface

I can think of so many cool things that can be done with this. Lessee how many are delivered and are easy to do. Shouldn’t go the way of the Tablet PC this.

Although at Wired they are all gushy gushy about it:

“For instance, you can take a digital camera that’s Wi-Fi enabled, put it down on the tabletop, and the machine recognizes it and downloads the photos. Then, you can interact with them much like actual physical photos—you can pass them around the table, shuffle them into piles to sort them, pull on the corners to zoom in or out. It’s intuitive, quick, and brings a fun social aspect to a task (photo editing) that can be the very definition of tedious.”

Saw all the videos, was bloody impressed. What bothers me is that

Initial customers will be in the hospitality businesses, such as restaurants, hotels, retail, and public entertainment venues.
Not graphic designers, artists? Design Engineers? I thought they’d kill to have access to a machine like that. Gamers, publishers, etc.

    And I won’t even say anything anti-MS :P

Hey, since you have full inside scoop, any idea if it can do this? – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zp-y3ZNaCqs That was a pretty kickass demo there.

Thanks for the link, awesome stuff, let’s hope MS can capitalize on it.

That IS interesting – though to be fair the site has been there for some time only not made public. Silverlight rollout is goon take some time.

And Anu, dude, you need to really really think if you need a Mac at this point. It doesn’t do much of anything, as fasr as I am concerned.

Pi dude, welcome. Sorry for the late approving of comments, now that i’ve done it once, Akismet should behave.

And you’re right. The implications for Design Engineers and Gaming industry are huge. This actually started as a project called Play Anywhere. They say the immediate benefits are to those industries, mostly because it’s gonna be a bit expensive till they can break even and start selling it cheap. Plus it’s a V1 tech from MS. They usually hope the market will make itself, and they’ll cater to them after. :P
